“I get my work from word of mouth.” Good. They look you up first.
Yes, you still need a website. The person you were recommended to looks you up before they ring. I build yours first, from your own photos and reviews, and you don’t write anything. If you like it, it’s £650: a 25% deposit once you’re happy with the design, and the rest within 7 days of it going live. Nothing if you don’t.

“If you're a small business needing a website, I'd definitely recommend him.”
Read it in full
Brilliant website and great support throughout. Archie built a new website for my fitness business and I'm really pleased with it. It's clean, looks professional and is easy to find your way around, which is exactly what I wanted.
I'm not techy at all, but Archie helped me through the whole process and explained everything I needed to do in plain English. Nothing was too much trouble. If you're a small business needing a website, I'd definitely recommend him.
I’ll build it first. You decide after.
Tell me the business name and the town. I send you three homepage designs within a day, then build the whole website in the one you pick, every page written, usually in about 2 days, and send you a link. Look at it in your own time, with whoever else has a say.
If you want it, it’s £650: a £162.50 deposit once you’re happy with the design, and the rest within 7 days of it going live. If you don’t, say so and it comes down. You pay nothing, and I won’t follow it up.
What is yours, and the small print
- Your domain (your web address, like yourbusiness.co.uk) is bought in your name, on your card. About £10 a year, paid to the company you buy it from, not to me. I send you a one-page guide to buying it.
- Every login is handed over in writing once it is paid for, and the hosting moves to an account in your name at no cost. Nothing is locked to me.
- No monthly fee unless you choose monthly care: £29 a month for up to five changes, stop any time.
- If you change your mind after saying yes, the 25% is kept for the work done. If I can’t get it live for a reason on my side, it comes back in full.
- You pay by bank transfer to the account named on the invoice. My bank details will never change by message.
What a website does for a busy business.
It makes the recommendation stick.
The person was already halfway to choosing you. The website gets them the rest of the way, instead of sending them back to Google to look at somebody else.
It fills the quiet weeks.
Word of mouth is brilliant when it is busy and slow when it is not. A site that turns up when somebody searches for what you do nearby keeps people coming when the recommendations slow down.
It answers the same questions for you.
Where are you, when are you open, roughly what does it cost, can I see some of your work. The site answers them before anyone gets in touch, so the people who do are ready.
It is paid for once.
£650 for a website or £350 for one page. No monthly fee unless you choose monthly care, and hosting costs nothing extra on this kind of site. It keeps working while you are busy.
It works with your Facebook page.
Keep posting on Facebook for the people who already follow you. The website is what a stranger finds when they search, and its buttons can open Messenger, as Paul Armstrong’s do.
A recommendation gets checked.
Word of mouth still works. It just has one more step in it than it used to.
Somebody passes your name on.
A customer, a neighbour, a friend at work, a post in the village Facebook group. They get your name and, if you are lucky, a number.
They look you up before they get in touch.
Even with a recommendation. They want to see what you do, check you are still going, and find out where you are and when you are open.
They decide quickly.
What you do, where you are and an easy way to get in touch, and they ring, book or call in. Nothing at all, or a page that went quiet two years ago, and they try the other name they were given.
