AS Web Design

How it works. Three designs first. Paid for after.

Within a day I send you three homepage designs. Pick one and I build the whole website, usually in about 2 days, and send you a link. If you want it, it’s £650: a 25% deposit once you’re happy with it, and the rest within 7 days of it going live on your own domain. If you don’t, you pay nothing.

What actually happens, step by step.

Nobody pays me to try. Every step, and what you have paid me at each one.

  1. You tell me what you do and where.

What the business does, where you are, and what you want people to get in touch about. A message, the form or a ten-minute call is enough. Photos or a logo help. If you have none, I work without them.

Paid to me so far£0Telling me costs nothing.

  2. I send you three homepage designs.

Within a day, three different homepage designs, made with your own logo, colours and photos. Pick the one you like, or mix bits from each. Not a template with your logo dropped on it.

Paid to me so far£0Designing them costs you nothing.

  3. I build the whole thing, and you get a link.

Every page written, so you don’t write anything. Every photo placed, ready to go live. Usually about 2 days. It has a password, so only you see it. Look at it in your own time and show whoever has a say. I send a short video of it, and ring once, at a time you pick. If we miss each other I message, twice at most. The preview stays up for two weeks, as it has your photos on, and the price does not change.

Paid to me so far£0I build it at my own cost.

  4. You decide. That is when anything is payable.

Yes: 25% to go ahead. I make the changes you ask for, and it goes live within 3 working days of your last one. The rest is due within 7 days of it going live on your own domain. No: you say so, and that is the end of it. No invoice.

Paid to me so far£162.50To go ahead on the £650 website. The other £487.50 within 7 days of going live.

  5. You buy the domain, in your name.

Your domain is your web address, like yourbusiness.co.uk. Your name, your card, about £10 a year, paid to the company you buy it from. I send you a one-page guide to buying it, and I never hold it. Once the website is paid for, the hosting moves to an account in your name, which costs you nothing.

Paid to me so far£162.50The domain is paid to the company you buy it from, not to me.

“If you're a small business needing a website, I'd definitely recommend him.”

Brilliant website and great support throughout. Archie built a new website for my fitness business and I'm really pleased with it. It's clean, looks professional and is easy to find your way around, which is exactly what I wanted.

I'm not techy at all, but Archie helped me through the whole process and explained everything I needed to do in plain English. Nothing was too much trouble. If you're a small business needing a website, I'd definitely recommend him.

archiespencer.com/how-it-works#own

Where it lives, and who pays for what.

Every ongoing cost, in one place, before you commit to anything.

What you own

  • The domain, registered to you
  • The hosting account, in your name once the site is paid for
  • The files, handed over as a zip if you ever want them
  • Every login, in writing, once it is paid for

Once it is paid for, if you want to move to another web person, nothing needs my permission and nothing needs my involvement.

archiespencer.com/how-it-works#changes

Changes, after it’s live.

Priced and timed before you ask, not after. Change times are counted in working days: weekends and bank holidays do not count.

  1. You send the changes.

WhatsApp or email, in one message. A photo of a scribbled note is fine.

  2. I reply within 24 hours with the price and the day.

Before I touch anything. If it turns out bigger than it looked, you hear that first, not on an invoice.

  3. Text and photo changes are back within two working days.

Up to five in one message for £50, so save them up and send them together. A typo I made is fixed at no charge, the same day.

  4. A new page is £150, within three working days.

Written, not just laid out: the words are part of the price.

  5. Anything bigger gets a figure and a date before it starts.

You approve both, or you don’t, and nothing happens until you do.

With the £900 option, up to five changes a month are included for a year after it goes live. Otherwise monthly care covers up to five a month for £29, and you can stop it any time.

For the first three months after it goes live, I send you a one-page Google report each month: how often Google showed your site, what people searched to find you, and three things to do next. After that, the report comes with monthly care.

A year later, I check it again.

A year after your site goes live I run it back through the same checker I use on everybody else’s: how fast it loads, whether your number is still one tap, whether Google still has something to show. Then I send you what it says. It costs nothing. If something needs doing you get a price and a date first. If nothing does, I tell you that too.

archiespencer.com/how-it-works#questions

Right. What’s the catch?

Here is everything it can cost you, so you can judge it yourself, then the other questions people ask.

Fair questions

What’s the catch?

Here is everything it can cost you. If it’s a no, nothing. If it’s a yes, 25% to go ahead: it is kept if you change your mind before the site goes live, and refunded in full if I can’t get it live for a reason on my side. The rest is due within 7 days of it going live. Your domain is about £10 a year, paid by you. Changes after it goes live are £50 for up to five, unless you have the year of changes or monthly care, and you send them to me: there is no editor to log into. And nobody can promise you a place on Google, me included.

Why would you build it for nothing?

Because ringing a stranger and telling them I am good at this does not work. Showing them does. If you don’t want it, that is my time gone and nothing at all for you. I can afford that.

How long does it take?

Three homepage designs within a day of your first message. Pick one and the whole site is usually built in about 2 days. Once you say go ahead, it goes live within 3 working days of your last change, and within 14 days at most.

Do I have to write anything?

No. Every page is written for you, from what you tell me. If you have photos or a logo, send them. If you don’t, I work without them.

How is it that cheap?

No office, no account manager, no meetings and no salesman taking a cut. No WordPress, no theme and no platform fees behind it, so there is nothing to pay for and nothing to keep patched.

What if I don’t like it?

You say so and that is the end of it. No invoice and no follow-up. You owe nothing.

What happens to the 25% if I change my mind?

If you cancel after saying yes, before the website goes live, the 25% is kept for the work already done, and nothing more is owed by either side. If I can’t get it live for a reason on my side, I refund it in full. Once it is live on your domain, the price is payable.

Is there anything to sign?

Nothing to see it. If you want it, I send an order form that sets out the pages, what goes on each one and the price. A reply saying “confirmed” is enough, and no signature is needed. The terms are on this site.

Can I edit it myself?

Not with a drag and drop editor. You send me the changes: £50 for up to five, or monthly care at £29 a month. The files are yours, so any web person can edit them too.

What if I want it changed in six months?

Message me and I will change it: £50 for up to five, or covered by monthly care at £29 a month. Or don’t. The domain is in your name from the start, and every login is handed over once it is paid for, so any other web person can pick it up. Nothing is locked to me.

I’ve already got a website.

Then you have something to compare it with. I rebuild it, send you the link, and you put them side by side. If you go ahead, it goes live on the domain you already have, and your email is not touched. You can check your current one first.

Is the yearly check a way of selling me something?

It is one email a year from the person who built it. If nothing needs doing, that is all it says. If something does, you get a price before any work starts, and you can ignore it.
