Guides. Plain answers for business owners.
Straight answers to the questions business owners ask about websites: what one costs, what it should include, how to get found on Google and who owns what. Written by Archie Spencer, who builds websites for businesses in Worcestershire and across the UK.
Rather have it built? I build the website first, finished: £0 to see it, £650 if you want it live. How it works
Questions owners ask, answered plainly.
Each guide opens with the short answer, then the detail. Where a rule or a platform is involved, the guide names the official source it was checked against.

What should a care home website include?
A care home website should show your CQC rating for each home, your weekly fees for self-funders and what they cover, who pays for what, which rooms are available with the date, photographs of the real bedrooms, a virtual visit, a section for families and a careers page.
-
How much does a small business website cost in the UK?
With me, a small business website costs £650 built and live on your own domain, £900 with a year of changes, or £350 for one page, and nothing until you have seen it finished.
-
How do I get my business on Google?
Set up and verify a free Google Business Profile, so you can appear on Google Maps and in local results, and give Google a website that says in plain text what you do and which towns you cover.
-
Do I need a website if I have a Facebook page?
Yes, if you want people who do not already follow you to find you, trust you and get in touch.
-
Wix or a built website: which is right for a small business?
Wix suits you if you want to build and change the website yourself and are happy to pay a monthly or yearly plan for as long as it is on your own domain.
-
Who owns my website and domain?
You should: the domain registered in your name from the start, and the website, its hosting account, its files and every login handed over to you once it is paid for.

Any business.
Built around yours.
A care home and a cafe need different pages, different words and different buttons. Each of these has its own page on what that kind of business needs.

Your business name, what you do and where. That is enough to start. I build it, send you the link, and it costs you nothing to see it.
