Who I am

This website
This site sets no cookies unless you choose to. The first time you visit, a bar at the bottom of the page asks whether I can use Google Analytics. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga) that last up to two years, and Google collects details such as the pages you view, roughly where you are, your device and how you found the site, so I can see how people use it. Google processes this for me under its own terms and may do so outside the UK. If you reject, nothing loads and no cookie is set. Your choice is remembered in your browser, and you can change your cookie choice at any time. Separately, when a page opens, it sends me a short notification with the page name, the type of device (for example “iPhone”) and the website that linked to it, such as Google. If you arrived from a link in an email I sent you, the link carries a short reference to your business, and the notification includes it, so I know the email was read. It does not include your name, your IP address or anything else that tells me who you are. The notification is delivered by ntfy.sh, a notification service, which receives the request the way any website you connect to does, but passes me only the details above. I use it to see how many people read the site and which pages they look at, which is my legitimate interest in running it. The WhatsApp and email links simply open your own apps.
It has three forms: the enquiry form at the bottom of most pages, the “build me one” box on the website checker, and the client site form on the partner pages. If you send one, I receive what you typed into it (for the enquiry form: your name, business name, what you do and where, a phone number or email address, and anything else you choose to add; for the checker: your email address, the website you checked and its results; for the partner form: your email address, your client’s web address, the confirmation tick, anything you add as a note, and the tag from the email link). When you run the website checker, the web address you checked, its score and what the checker found it was built on are also sent to me (saved by Netlify, with a notification through ntfy.sh), even if you don't fill in the box, so I can see which sites are being checked. Submissions are delivered to me by my web host, Netlify, which stores them on its own servers until I delete them. I use them only to reply to you about a website, and I delete enquiries that go nowhere within twelve months.
If you contact me or become a client
I will hold:
- Your name, business name, phone number and email address.
- The content you give me for the website: text, photographs, logos and any logins you choose to share.
- Details of your business: what you do, where you work and what you want the website to say.
- Records of the website I built for you and the fees invoiced.
I use it to build and maintain your website, to invoice you and to keep the accounting records I am required by law to keep. The legal bases are performance of our contract, my legitimate interest in running and defending my business, and compliance with legal obligations.
Where your information is held
Information you send me is stored on services I use for email, messaging and file storage. Some of them hold data outside the UK, under the safeguards in their own terms.
How long I keep it
Invoices and the records behind them are kept for six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, which is what the tax rules require. Content you gave me for the site (text, photographs and logos) is kept while I hold a copy of your website, and is deleted on request after handover. Any logins you shared are deleted as soon as the handover is done. If you stop using me, tell me and I will delete what I am not required to keep.
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- Tell you what information I hold about you, and give you a copy.
- Correct anything that is wrong.
- Delete information I no longer have a reason to keep.
- Restrict or object to what I am doing with it.
- Send it to you, or to someone else, in a portable format.
Email me and I will deal with it within one month, free of charge. If you are not happy with how I have handled it you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
If this notice changes I will update it here and change the date at the top.
